Lesson 6: Putting it All Together

Infidelity: It may be in our genes

I have found this article in the time magazine to be somewhat disturbing as it proves the point that our world is becoming more and more numb to the idea of a lasting marriage and the hopes of obtaining one. Satan is a genius when it comes to knowing how to make people feel miserable and hopeless. We simply cannot believe such a magazine title as this one shown in Time Magazine.

The Book of Mormon is a great resource for finding examples of truth or light and also examples of wickedness or abomination.  There are some evil people in The Book of Mormon and I would like to review one of them with you today. His name was Korihor.

This man did not believe in Jesus Christ and tried to convince others to go against Him. He was seeking for signs and even tempted God to show unto Him a sign. Robert D. Hales said the following about Korihor:

"Korihor was not content merely to reject God and quietly go his own way. He mocked the believers and demanded that the prophet Alma convince him with a sign of God’s existence and power."

After feeling Godly sorrow towards this evil man, Alma, a wonderful missionary in The Book of Mormon said the following to Korihor:

"But behold, it is better that thy soul should be lost than that thou shouldst be the means of bringing many souls down to destruction, by thy lying and by thy flattering words; therefore if thou shalt deny again, behold God shall smite thee, that thou shalt become dumb, that thou shalt never open thy mouth any more, that thou shalt not deceive this people any more" (Alma 30:47).

God surely did by making it so Korihor could no longer speak. It was only after this rude (and much needed) awakening that Korihor admitted that he was wrong and said:

"...I know that nothing save it were the power of God could bring this upon me; yea, and I always knew that there was a God.  But behold, the devil hath deceived me; for he appeared unto me in the form of an angel, and said unto me: Go and reclaim this people, for they have all gone astray after an unknown God. And he said unto me: There is no God; yea, and he taught me that which I should say..." (Alma 30:52-53)

Now, can we see a similarity between a man like Korihor and our media that we have today? The Time Magazine title is a perfect example of how Satan can make bad things look good and good things look bad. He tries to convince us that marriage is not worth it and that husbands and wives are never loyal to one another. Korihor was deceived and we need to be careful to not fall into that trap.

May we each take the time every day to realize what is important. We need to put God first in all that we do and pray for the ability to resist temptation. We need to stand tall and never shrink. As it says in Romans 8:31, "If God be for us, WHO can be against us?" (Emphasis added)

The answer to that scripture?

NO ONE!!!! WE WILL ALWAYS HAVE HIM ON OUR SIDE.
